Netflix really hit the jackpot with the period science fiction horror show Strange Things, which started streaming on the platform back in 2016. The show’s growth has been unprecedented, soon becoming one of the most popular shows on the planet. Stranger Things has now set a new streaming record on the platform.

For the week of May 30-June 5, Stranger Things had a whopping 7.2 billion minutes of viewing time according to Nielsen, which is also the highest recorded time since the weekly ranking was set up in 2020.

Another thing to note, is that Nielsen rating only tracks the viewing minutes of TV sets in the USA, meaning that the number would be multifold to this if the numbers of viewers from around the world was calculated.

Stranger Things also becomes the first series to go past the 7 billion minutes mark for a single week. Tiger King and Ozark are the other two shows that have made it to the 5 billion mark, giving a clear idea as to how big an achievement the record set by Stranger Things is.

Season 4 of Stranger Things released on Netflix on May 27, and offered the viewers even episodes of their favourite characters. Volume 2 of the fourth season, which consists of two episodes, started streaming on Netflix on July 1. The streaming site crashed on the day volume 2 was released.

“The season finale featured other spectacular set-pieces as well, including a stunning fight scene between Jim and a Demogorgon. At one point, the story appeared as if it would take a rather cliched route with how it would find its resolution,” reads the review of Volume 2 on OTTplay.

All four seasons of Stranger Things, which stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Joe Keery and Maya Hawke, are available on Netflix.
