Stree 2 writer Naren Bhatt has spoken about the current state in Bollywood, and why it is a sad one with more flops than hits. He appears to have deciphered why Hindi films are not working post-pandemic and feels remake culture is the core reason for it. Naren points out that if 25 movies are remakes, only 23 are working. With it, he bashes the remake culture which became famous in the industry ever since Ghajini, released back in 2008, worked. He also discusses how the 'system is broken' but writers can bring about the necessary change, if given the right opportunity for it. Here's everything he said about the current state of Bollywood, particularly the Bollywood writers...

While addressing the media at Indian Screenwriters Conference (ISC), Naren Bhatt, who is among the senior writers for Maddock Supernatural Universe, addressed the need for original stories over remakes. "Out of 25 remakes post-pandemic, 23 are flops. The only way to succeed is to make original content," he pointed out.
Naren also claimed that it is the worst time to be a writer in Bollywood because everyone is struggling. He looks at it from an optimistic point of view too, while exclaiming that the entire system is broken. While stating so, he called writers the biggest disruptors and the ones who can survive. "People who are sticking to their guns, their films aren't working," he shared.
Among the many, Naren will be contributing to stories for Ayushmann Khurrana's Thama, Rajkummar Rao-Shraddha Kapoor's Stree 3 and Varun Dhawan's Bhediya 2.

Other projects in Maddock Supernatural Universe include Maha Munjya (Munjya sequel), Pehla Mahayudh and Doosara Mahayudh. The latest introductions, apart from Thama, include Shakti Shalini with Kiara Advani (titled Devi initially) and Chamunda with Alia Bhatt.
While Thama and Shakti Shalini are scheduled to release this year, Bhediya 2 and Chamunda will be out in 2026, followed by Stree 3 and Maha Munjya in 2027. 2028 is reserved for the dual Mahayudh.
