Suresh Gopi fans have a lot of hopes pinned on Joshiy’s crime drama Paappan. The movie, which marks the collaboration of the superhit duo after almost a decade, also marks the return of the actor as a police officer, a role that has been synonymous with the superstar in Malayalam.
At a promo event for the movie held in Kochi, Suresh Gopi had talked about teaming up with Joshiy again as well as working with the young actors in the film, which is scripted by RJ Shaan.
“After I had decided to do different films following a gap, I had Varane Avashyamund and Kaaval release in theatres and now there is Paappan. In Paappan, Joshiy chettan is presenting me with the same responsibility as he would introduce a newcomer,” he said. The actor also credited Joshiy for the growth of his career, bringing up how he had met the filmmaker during Rajavinte Makan in 1986, when he did a small role in the Mohanlal-starrer. “I had known him before too, as my father was Joshiy chettan’s brother’s friend. While he was studying in SN College, my father was his local guardian,” said the actor.
Suresh Gopi plays a former policer named Abraham Mathan Mathew, who comes out of retirement to crack a case in the movie that has Neeta Pillai of Poomaram and The Kung Fu Master fame essaying the role of his daughter. Neeta also plays a police officer in the film, which will hit theatres on July 29.
“The movie could give you a lady Suresh Gopi through Neeta Pillai,” said Suresh Gopi, at the event. Nyla Usha, who also plays a cameo role as Suresh Gopi’s love interest in the film, said that Neeta’s character is “the fire” in the movie. Paappan also marks the first time that Suresh Gopi’s son Gokul will be sharing screen space with the superstar.
