Actor Suriya, who has produced his brother, actor Karthi's upcoming rural entertainer Viruman, directed by Muthiah, was recently in Madurai for the film's audio launch. The actor was received to a huge applause and the National Award-winning thanked the people of Madurai for their love and support.

"I have always had a unique bond with Madurai. Just like I would go to my hometown Coimbatore, I have come to Madurai many times during my school days. Madurai is the gateway to southern Tamil Nadu. It is known for its Vaadi Vaasal (the entry point of Jallikattu bull), Meenakshi Amman temple. And when it comes to real stories, Madurai has no dearth of them. And so many people have come from Madurai to tell the rustic rural tales from here."

Taking the example of veteran director Bharathiraja, Suriya said, "Look at Iyakkunar Imayam Bharathiraaja. He is a great example from Madurai. He has been an inspiration to many directors when it comes to telling stories from the rural heartland. Incidentally, he also happens to be our neighbour and I have grown up playing with his son, actor Manoj Bharathuiraaja. Working with Bharathiraja uncle in Aayutha Ezhuthu was a great learning experience. I have a grouse though that he didn't make me act in any of his films. "

He added, "Karthi had asked why I had decided to produce the film. I made this film because the last few scenes in the film have some power-packed dialogues in it. In Vedham Pudhithu, directed by Bharathiraja uncle, has a dialogue, which loosely translates to 'Is the name of your caste in your name, something that you have achieved in life' . Likewise Viruman, also has some dialogues in it."

Suriya also thanked director Bala and Ameer for giving the brothers an identity in films. "Karthi and I would not have this identity in the industry if not for director Bala (who directed Suriya in Nandha) and Ameer (who directed Karthi's debut film, Paruthiveeran).
