After wins against Pakistan and the Netherlands, Team India was looking to strengthen their spot in the semi-finals of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022. However, their roadblock came in the form of South Africa, which put a litter hinder their road to the Top 4.
However, India's loss on Sunday has not derailed their semifinal hopes. But, this loss has gone on to affect Pakistan the most.
The Men in Green's hopes of finishing second in Group B had depended on India finishing at the top. However, after the Men in Blue faltered in Perth, Pakistan suffered a huge blow.
Now Babar Azam and his men will be facing the Proteas and will need to win that game. This would hand a big chance to India to finish first.
Let's look at what Group B looks like after India's loss to South Africa:
Despite the loss, Rohit Sharma and his men can still make it to the semis. If the side wins their remaining two matches, it will see India reach eight points, which would be enough to finish top.
As for Pakistan, the maximum number of points they can now muster is six points. This would not be enough to finish first in the Group, most likely since South Africa are already on five points with two games remaining.
Even if the Proteas lose their next two matches, the Men in Green would have to win their remaining games by a huge margin to pip the proteas on net run rate.
Talking about the South African nation, they can finish at the top of the group if they beat Pakistan and win their remaining other game as well.
The only other team that is in the race in Bangladesh. They will be facing off against India, which surely won't be an easy game for the Bangla Tigers.
