Daya Jethalal Gada is one of the most popular characters on the show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and fans are missing her terribly. And to add to the disappointment, the makers have said that the chances of Disha Vakani returning to play Dayaben are ‘slim’. They are now looking for a fresh face to replace her as Dayaben.

Disha has played Daya Jethalal Gada since 2008 and she rose to stardom and became a household name in India due to TMKOC. Disha gained fame because of her comic timing on the show, but she hasn't appeared on the show since 2017. She decided to take a sabbatical after she got married and had a baby. She, however, did a cameo role in 2019.

Fans of the show miss seeing her fun banter with her on-screen husband Jethalal Gada, played by Dilip Joshi. Recently, Asit Kumarr Modi, the producer of the show, spoke about Daya Ben's character in the TV show and their plans ahead.

Asit told ETimes that they are arranging the comeback of Dayaben, but the prospects of Disha returning are minimal. Disha has been on a break since 2017. While there are rumours in the industry that Disha is seeking a raise in her compensation to come back, some feel that her in-laws want her to concentrate on her family now.

According to the producer, there might be a new face who would replace Disha as they do not want to push Disha to return to the programme because she is married and has more responsibility as a mother.

Previously, Asit told Indian Express, "I, like the public, am hoping for Disha to return as Daya. All said and done, I am thankful that the audience has been giving us equal love even in her absence, which is quite a boost," he said.

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah premiered on Sony SAB on July 28, 2008, and rapidly became a popular show on Indian television. It holds the Guinness World Record for the longest-running daily sitcom on television.

The show primarily focuses on the residents of the Gokuldham co-operating housing community and their daily problems. The show is also available to stream on SonyLIV.
