In Kannada film circles, Tanya Hope is best remembered for her role in the Darshan-starrer Yajamana, in which she played a journalist and, notably, grooved to the peppy dance number, Basanni Baa with the Challenging Star. While Yajamana turned out to be Tanya’s Kannada film debut eventually, it was not the first she shot for.
“My first Kannada film was Home Minister with Upendra and Vedhika. In fact, while I was shooting for it, there was a media report about my debut. Producer Shylaja Nag saw this article and approached me to play the second lead in Yajamana. If it weren’t for Home Minister, I would have never done Yajamana. The film released three years ago. Much as I am saddened by the delay in the release of Home Minister, I am glad it is finally hitting theatres,” says Tanya, adding, "The beauty of Home Minister is its subject, which has a role reversal, with Uppi sir playing a home-maker, while his wife, played by Vedhika, is the breadwinner of the family. The film revolves around the circumstances why he's chosen to be a home-maker."
In fact, the actress fills us in on the fact that the team was not hopeful of the film getting completed. “The director had a serious bout of ill-health that rendered him unable to carry on with directing for a while. In fact, some of the portions of the film have been put together by other members of the directorial team,” she adds.
Meanwhile, the actress is just back from a schedule of her Tamil film Golmaal in Mauritius. “In fact, I am heading to Sri Lanka and Thailand for my next in Tamil, which is with Santhanam and is being directed by Kannada filmmaker Prashant Raj. This untitled film is a romantic comedy and follows a tried-and-tested formula. The script is sweet and funny and Santhanam is a comedy king. I think this kind of film is the need of the hour, where people can just laugh and feel a little love. In Kannada, I should be starting Bell Bottom 2 in another two months, so work is hectic for me. After Home Minister, I should have three Tamil releases, Vallan with Sundar C, Kulasami with Vemal and Golmaal, in which I am paired with Jiiva,” she says.
