The year 2023 has the words BOX OFFICE written all over it. Be it the West or the Indian film industry, there have been massive hits that earned big time across the globe. One such global phenomenon was Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, which marked its release this year. The concert documentary turned out to be so successful that it wasn’t just well received in the West but across the globe wherever it saw its release. The movie was $100 million strong even before it was released. However, it was always compared to Michael Jackson’s This Is It and it couldn’t cross its lifetime in its first attempt.

If the reports are to go by, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is getting a second chance to beat Michael Jackson’s This Is It and that is due to the Swift documentary finally getting a green signal to release in China. For the uninitiated, This Is It, is not exactly a concert movie but rather a look into the life of the legendary performer behind the stage as he prepared for the concert. But the comparisons were uncanny because The Eras Tour fell very close in the same category.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour now stands at a total box office earning of $250.1 million at the moment. However, the film getting a go-head for a China release is a massive achievement, considering that the laws have gotten more stringent and the country doesn’t allow many foreign films to be released there. But Taylor is special and the Swifties would agree to that.

However, to give you a perspective, Michael Jackson’s This Is It stands on a lifetime collection of $261 million. The documentary was released on the big screen just a few months after his demise. The emotional quotient was very high. For Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, the journey now is to fill the $11 million void and surpass This Is It at the global box office.

Taylor Swift enjoys a massive fan following in China too, which means that the fans will flood theatres like they did in many parts of the world. The fact that it will also have the widest IMAX release and all premium screens in its kitty also adds to the easy run to beat This Is It. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is set to hit the screen in China on December 31, 2023.
