Director Lokesh Kanagaraj has been talking about his efforts to show Thalapathy Vijay in a new dimension in his upcoming directorial Leo. Like all superstars, Vijay has also fallen into an image trap. He has been stereotyped into doing only a handful of roles. It is as if he plays the same character under different names.

However, Lokesh vowed to redefine Vijay's screen image by giving ample space for the 'actor' in him to shine. In a recent interview, he revealed how he has managed to defy the narrative patterns that we usually see in a typical Vijay movie.

"There are no punch dialogues. No intro song, No punch dailouges. His character will behave like a normal person in his 40s. He hasn't even spoken in his usual style. He has not used any of his typical mannerisms in this movie," Lokesh told Galatta Plus.

Leo will redefine Vijay as an actor

It seems for the first time in a long time, Vijay has been asked to cater to the needs of the character he's playing, as opposed to bending and twisting the character and story in service of his superstardom.

"I think he (Vijay) did some amazing homework. We started shooting for the movie three months after I narrated the story to him. The first day we shot an important sequence. And in his performance, I saw what I wanted," he added.

Leo is seemingly inspired by the 'A History of Violence' graphic novel. Based on the trailer, Leo sets out to tell a story of a man, whose life turns upside down when he begins to receive wide media attention.

Leo is said to be part of Lokesh's cinematic universe. And it's getting ready to arrive in cinemas worldwide on October 19. Besides Vijay, the movie also stars Trisha, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun, Priya Anand, Mysskin, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Mansoor Ali Khan, Sandy Master, and Mathew Thomas.
