Thandel out on OTT: Where to stream Naga Chaitanya-Sai Pallavi's romantic drama

Thandel, Naga Chaitanya's latest film, has emerged as a massive box office hit. Directed by Chandoo Mondeti, this marks the third collaboration between the duo and is based on a real-life incident that took place in the Srikakulam district.

We at OTTplay were the first to reveal that Netflix secured the film's OTT rights for a staggering ₹55 crore and planned to release it on March 7, 2025. As reported, Thandel is now available for streaming on Netflix in Hindi and all major South Indian languages. 

Given the film’s theatrical success, there is significant buzz around its OTT performance, with expectations of impressive viewership numbers. Reports suggest that a few deleted jail sequences have been added to the OTT version.

Produced by Allu Aravind on a lavish budget of ₹100 crore, the film performed exceptionally well at the box office. Aravind recovered half of the budget even before the film's release through pre-release deals, while the remaining amount was secured through theatrical earnings. Furthermore, the post-release rights have also contributed significantly to the film’s revenue.

Sai Pallavi played a crucial role in Thandel, and her on-screen chemistry with Naga Chaitanya became one of the film’s biggest highlights. The story revolves around a fisherman who mistakenly crosses into Pakistani waters and is arrested. His girlfriend, played by Sai Pallavi, battles numerous challenges to secure his release along with other imprisoned fishermen.

Devi Sri Prasad composed the music, with the film's soundtrack becoming a huge hit, further boosting its theatrical run. Thandel raked in a whopping ₹68 crore share at the box office, while its U.S. collections crossed $2 million. This success also marks Naga Chaitanya’s first-ever ₹100 crore grosser. Overjoyed with the film’s performance, he recently hosted a grand celebration for his close friends and industry colleagues.

Currently, Naga Chaitanya has signed a new project with Karthik Varma Dandu, the director of Virupaksha. It remains to be seen how Thandel will perform on Netflix in the coming days. Stay tuned for more updates.
