Netflix released the first full trailer of its upcoming comedy show The Chair, starring Sandra Oh, on July 21. The Grey’s Anatomy actress essays Dr Ji-Yoon Kim who has been promoted as the Chair of the English department at the prestigious Pembroke University in the series. 

As the first woman to chair the department and being one of the limited number of staff members of colour at the university, Ji-Yoon is faced with a unique set of challenges. The series will trace Ji-Yoon’s life after she is instated in her role thanks to a scandal and how she navigates her new position to meet the demands and high expectations of the failing department .

The two-time Golden Globe Award-winner can be seen saying in the trailer, “I feel like someone handed me a ticking time bomb because they wanted to make sure a woman was holding it when it explodes,” which sums up the essence of the show. 

The series, created by Amanda Peet and Annie Wyman, stars a cast of comedy stars Jay Duplass, Bob Balaban, Holland Taylor, David Morse, Nana Mensah and Everly Carganilla.

It will be produced by Sandra, along with DB Weiss and David Benioff of Game of Thrones fame. 

The trailer also features the song ‘Oh!’ from The Linda Lindas, an all- female punk rock band. It is surely an exciting time in Hollywood to see a wide array of diverse characters in pivotal roles. 

The series is slated for a release on August 20 on Netflix.
