The Crown to Succession - Before Emmy Awards 2024 begin, binge these five nominated shows on OTTs

The Emmy Awards honour the best TV shows and actors in the US and across other countries. There are lots of different Emmy ceremonies throughout the year, each with its own awards for different kinds of shows. The two most famous ones are the Primetime Emmys for night-time TV shows, and the Daytime Emmys for shows that air during the day. Emmy Awards are like the Oscars for television.

The 75th Emmy Awards ceremony was originally scheduled for September 18, but was postponed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike last year. Especially for action by both actors and writers. Hence, now the 75th edition will premiere on January 15, 2024 at Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.

But before you witness the winners of Emmy Awards, we have curated a list of five shows that have achieved the nominations this year, to make your weekend exciting.

The Last of Us

A bad guy with a dark past, known for getting things done under the table, has to take a young teen through a world in ruins. He is not used to babysitting, but he has got a helper (a kid learning the ropes), and they gotta make it through without anyone getting hurt. Pedro Pascal plays the role of the bad guy Joel Miller. Before Pascal, the role was offered to Interstellar-famed Matthew McConaughey. The show grabbed three nominations for Golden Globes this year.

House of the Dragon

This Game of Thrones prequel has been making quite headlines since 2022. After Season 1's shocking end, the rivalry between Rhaenyra Targaryen, the Iron Throne's rightful heir, and Alicent Hightower, the queen and mother of the king's trueborn son, has reached a boiling point. The ominous taglines that are depicted on the posters, serve as a chilling warning to any who dare to cross their paths.

Succession

The Roys are the bosses of Waystar RoyCo, a huge company in the US that makes movies and TV shows all over the world. But grandpa Roy, the founder, decides to suddenly step down. This throws everyone into a fight to see who will be the next boss, with all the Roys grabbing for power like kids in a toy store. Succession has won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series and the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama in 2020 and 2022, respectively.

The Crown

The king's death was like a big rock thrown into the pond of Queen Elizabeth II's peaceful life. Suddenly, everything was different. Elizabeth Debicki has won the Golden Globe Award for the Best Female Actor in Supporting Role on Television this year. The show ended in December 2023, and all the episodes are now streaming on Netflix.

The White Lotus
