Sourav Ganguly recently lost the president position of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and its effect touched Tollywood too. Producer Rana Sarkar and actor Rahul Arunodoy Banerjee got into a debate. The latter is all set to debut as a director with Rana’s production Kolkata 96 which Sourav’s career plays a significant role. But as soon as Sourav lost the post, Rana said he would not make the film. However, Rahul says that the film will happen anyway or the other.

Rahul Arunodoy and Rana jointly announced the film on Sourav Ganguly’s birthday in July this year. Now, the debutant director is not ready to stop even after Rana backed out, and is thinking of getting a new producer on board. He said, “I will look for other producers. Ranada said he will help me.”

And Rana objected to that. According to him, if Rahul looks for other producers, what is the need for him to stay in the project? He said, “I did not promise anyone. But if someone is honest, they would return the previous producer’s money. I am not talking about legal steps. But it should be done out of conscience.”

To this, Rahul replied, “Not even one lakh rupees are spent. We did not have any contract, and I did not sell the story. If Rana says he will not make the film, I have the right to do it with other producers.”

Rahul clearly mentioned that this will not be a biopic of Sourav Ganguly. Rather, the film will explore the atmosphere after he scored his first century at Lord’s in 1996. With the debate between Rahul and Rana, the future of the project became uncertain.
