The Impossible Heir Story

The seventh episode of Disney+ Hotstar's new K-drama, The Impossible Heir, revolves around the rippling effects of Inju’s murder, and Tae-Oh faces the brunt of the accusation. Episode 7 begins with the flashbacks of Hyewon and Inha’s wedding day. Inju blackmails Tae-Oh by using his love, Hye-won, as bait, and despite Tae-Oh's attempts to confront Inju, the latter falls heavier as he continues to emotionally blackmail.

Later, the duo has some drinks, and the series spins around the present day with Tae-Oh waking up in the pool of blood and Inju being dead. He is accused of the murder because he is the prime suspect, but he fails to present any witnesses because of his drug consumption. The series then follows Chu Hyuk Jin investigating the reason behind In-ju’s death while Mo-gijun testifies against Tae-oh, which results in a harsh capital punishment verdict.

The Impossible Heir Review

Starring Lee Jae-wook, Lee Jun-young, and Hong Su-zu in lead roles, The Impossible Heir seems to be falling apart because of a loose narrative. The series began with an intriguing plotline but quickly lost its charm as it deviated from its motive with weak execution and unexplored characters.

Hye-won's character is the most flawed, as she doesn’t have any purpose in the story. She also appears to bring down Tae-Oh by becoming his weakness. In the entire series, only Inha’s character is quite engaging, with the addition of his immoral tactics. In the seventh episode, we get to see another side of his character as he directly blames his friend Tae-Oh for Inju’s murder.

The friends are now turning foes; is Hye-won the reason or the power influence? The Impossible Heir’s revenge narrative seems to be overpowered by business politics and an additional murder plot.

The Impossible Verdict

Even the new episode doesn’t seem to save the series from its dark end. The Impossible Heir is a tangled drama with a convoluted plotline and weak characters. Skip it to avoid unnecessary drama and half-hearted execution.

The Impossible Heir is available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar.
