The Kids in the Hall: Hit comedy series of the ’90s is now back on Amazon Prime Video

The iconic 1989 programme The Kids in the Hall is back on digital platforms to watch, but with a fresh spin. The show has been revived by the original creators, Kevin McDonald and Dave Foley and is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.

The Canadian sketch comedy series was created in 1984, although the programme was only shown from 1989 to 1995 on CBC Canada, which was also accessible in the United States of America on HBO, Comedy Central, and CBS.

The same comedians appear in the new eight-episode series, including Dave Foley, Kevin McDonald, Bruce McCulloch, Mark McKinney, and Scott Thompson. The makers have also released a documentary about what went behind the show, The Kids in the Hall: Comedy Punks on Prime Video.

In the recent interview with The A.V. Club, the two of the comics, Kevin McDonald and Dave Foley described their show and how the team feels about returning to the show. The comedians discussed how they collaborate as writers after over 25 years. Dave's writing was flawless, according to Kevin, but they had to rewrite bits that Kevin wrote. They claim to have written the entire series. Kevin also added "The whole series! Most things on Amazon, Dave and I write!." Dave added to his comment, "Yeah. That new Outer Range show? That’s ours."

Dave also discussed his character, who has a touch of horror about him. He has expressed worries about his sketches not being humorous or even intriguing. For him, comedy was all about the conventional, from true horror to getting involved in the characters. Kevin further said, "And besides horror, there’s also sadness in that scene. Dave’s looks when he stops being a rock ’n’ roll DJ are just sad in a comical way."

Dave also mentioned that this was a response to the darkest period of "COVID and Trump". They hope that people appreciate the series since they are quite proud of it. According to them, they have created a humour that is lacking in the world right now.
