The Raja Saab OTT release date: When, where to stream Prabhas' horror comedy online

The Raja Saab was one of the most awaited films of 2026, featuring Prabhas, Nidhhi Agerwal, and Malavika Mohanan in the lead roles. The horror-comedy was directed by Maruthi and was promoted aggressively promotions. However, despite all the hype, The Raja Saab ended as a disaster at the box office.

We at OTTplay have already revealed that JioHotstar has bagged the digital rights to the film and will stream it in the first week of February 2026. As reported, The Raja Saab will be available for streaming on JioHotstar from February 6, 2026. Once the film lands on OTT, you can also stream it on OTTplay Premium.

What is the budget of The Raja Saab?

The Raja Saab was made on a budget of Rs 450 crore, but it made only Rs 225 crore at the box office, as per tracking portal Sacnilk. This means that nearly half of the film’s budget is yet to be recovered. Though the OTT deal fetched the makers a decent amount, they are still staring at losses close to Rs 100 crore. 

As Prabhas was doing back-to-back action films, he decided to do a fun entertainer and roped in comedy specialist Maruthi to direct The Raja Saab. Maruthi grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Sadly, the film was in the making for nearly three years. First, Prabhas met with an accident, and later, due to financial issues, the shoot was postponed multiple times.

The Raja Saab faces massive trolls

Finally, The Raja Saab hit the screens on January 9, 2026, but opened to very poor word of mouth. The way Prabhas was depicted using a dupe, the excessive use of CGI, and the execution of action scenes became major troll material. More than anyone else, Maruthi has been trolled heavily for the film’s failure, with many saying that he let go of a golden opportunity given by Prabhas.

What is the story of The Raja Saab?

The film revolves around a grandson and his grandmother. Prabhas plays the lead role and sets out to find his grandfather, played by Sanjay Dutt, who turns into an evil spirit living in a haunted house. How Prabhas is connected to this story and how he brings his grandfather back forms the crux of the film.

The film featured noted heroines and had music composed by Thaman. Unfortunately, none of the songs created any impact ahead of the release, despite the makers spending heavily on promotions. As the film turned into a big box-office failure, a section of the audience skipped watching it in theatres.
