Theri re-release date confirms Vijay’s Jana Nayagan not set to hit theatres on February 20?

For all the Vijay fans out there, January was a disappointment after the actor’s final film Jana Nayagan which was scheduled for Pongal release, had faced delays due to censor issues. It was another blow when the re-release of Theri, Vijay’s 2016 film, was also later called off. Now, even as Jana Nayagan release is in debacle and uncertainty looming over it, Theri has been confirmed for release this month.

Theri re-release date confirms Jana Nayagan’s further delay?

It was announced late Wednesday that Theri, the 2016 Vijay-starrer film is set to hit big screens once again on February 20. The film was earlier planned for release in January, but had to be pushed after several small budget films had requested the producer to shift the date. Now, after a month, Theri makers have planned for a new re-release date. The movie is planned for February 20.

Now, it looks like the new re-release date of Theri has given partial confirmation that Jana Nayagan might after all not hit theatres that weekend. Billed as Vijay’s farewell film, Jana Nayagan has been facing censorship issues followed by court battle with CBFC Board. The latest is that the makers of Jana Nayagan have withdrawn their case from Madras High Court and have sent the film to the revising committee. While there was social media buzz that Jana Nayagan might release on February 20, it is highly unlikely given Theri makers have gone ahead to take the slot.

The makers of Jana Nayagan are yet to announce the release date of the film. With the team yet to get a censor certificate, scores of fans are waiting to watch the film. Given the elections are scheduled to take place in Tamil Nadu in summer, and Vijay is set to contest, Jana Nayagan must hit theatres before the modal code of conduct is put on force, or wait until the elections are over.
