The Tamil movie Jana Nayagan, which has been delayed for over a month after getting embroiled in a row with CBFC, is finally seeing some positive steps which hints that a release is likely. KVN Productions, which has bankrolled actor Vijay’s Jana Nayagan, had moved the Madras High Court to withdraw their writ petition. In the latest update, the Madras HC has now permitted the makers to withdraw their plea against the CBFC.

Starring actor Vijay in what is being said to be his last film, Jana Nayagan was fighting a legal battle after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) did not issue the censor certificate, mandatory for release in theatres. Exactly a month after its scheduled release date of January 9, reports said that the makers had moved the court to withdraw the plea and have agreed to the film being sent to the revising committee.

On February 10, the Madras High Court allowed the film’s makers to withdraw their writ petition. With the latest update, the legal hurdles for sending the movie to the revising committee have been cleared. Now, it is up to the revising committee to examine and issue the certificate for the movie - U, U/A or A. Earlier, the court had directed the board to grant U/A certificate for the movie. Online trackers have said that the continuing process would take around 10 days.

If the CBFC does grant the certificate, it would mark the curtains down on one of the most raging issues in the Tamil film industry, which also has a bearing on the state politics. Actor Vijay seeks to end his popular cinematic career after Jana Nayagan and plunge into active politics, with his party TVK set to contest in the upcoming Assembly elections
