Following favourable reviews, the demand for Mohanlal-starrer Neru is said to have increased throughout Kerala even on its fifth week of theatrical release.
Jeethu Joseph’s latest film, Neru, is now the fourth highest-grossing Malayalam movie ever made. In its fifth week of theatrical distribution, the movie is playing in theatres all over the state with great success. The makers of the movie recently expressed their excitement at the film's Rs 100 crore box office haul.
The film has also amassed more than the collections of Mammootty's all-time highest-grossing movie, Bheeshma Parvam. The film, directed by Amal Neerad, raked in about Rs 45 crore in Kerala.
Apart from Neru, Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan and Lucifer are among the top five grossers in Malayalam, with second and third place, respectively. In just two weeks, Pulimurugan completed 10,000 housefull shows, setting a new record for Malayalam films. According to reports, Lucifer, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, raked in ₹125.27 crore worldwide.
The first place is held by Jude Anthany Joseph's 2018: Everyone is a Hero, which made ₹87 crore in Kerala alone. It is the first Malayalam film to accomplish this.
The plot of the much-acclaimed Neru centres on the trial of a contentious case. In the movie, Mohanlal portrayed public prosecutor Adv Vijayamohan, a lawyer who experiences a few setbacks that cause him to lose confidence at first but eventually gain it in court.
Following favourable reviews, the demand for the Mohanlal-starrer is said to have increased throughout Kerala. For Neru, almost every major release location in the state had added more shows to handle the growing number of eager viewers.
In contrast to other recent Mohanlal films, Neru got underway quietly and finished filming on a tight schedule. Nonetheless, the film's outstanding trailer and the cast and crew's participation at pre-release events attracted the audience. For the actor, who had a few box office setbacks recently, the courtroom drama has been a huge hit thanks to the positive reviews and growing word-of-mouth publicity. Neru will be streaming on Disney+ Hotstar starting January 23.
The actor’s fans and film enthusiasts are hoping that the superstar will once again enter a similar phase in his career with consecutive blockbusters after the release of his upcoming film, Malaikottai Vaaliban. The period drama, helmed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, will hit the big screen on January 25.
