A young Ajith fan lost his life during the celebrations of the FDFS of the actor's latest release Thunivu. The victim, identified as Bharath Kumar, is said to have jumped from a slow-moving lorry during the revelry and seemed to have had a fatal fall. He had come to a theatre in Poonamalle, Chennai for the 1am show. A case has been registered by the Chennai police and investigation is on.

In the meantime, tension prevailed at a cinema complex in Coimbatore where Ajith fans had thronged for the FDFS and the Coimbatore police had to resort to mild lathi charge to disperse the crowd. In yet another incident, an Ajith fan had resorted to hooking his body in a crane to perform milk abhishekam for his matinee idol's cutout.

Fans of both Ajith and Vijay, who had assembled for the films of their respective stars in a Chennai movie hall, tore up the posters of each other thus creating a ruckus outside the theatre. While the FDFS of Ajith's Thunivu began at 1am, the FDFS of Vijay's Varisu was held at 4am across the state. The Tamil Nadu government has cancelled the 4am and 5am shows of both films from January 13 to January 16 when the state will ring in the harvest festival Pongal and will have a long holiday on the occasion.

It is after 8 long years that films of the onscreen rivals Ajith and Vijay are releasing on the same day and fans are leaving no stone unturned to celebrate the occasion. The last time they clashed at the box office was in 2014 when Ajith's Veeram and Vijay's Jilla released .

While Thunivu is a heist thriller by H Vinoth, which revolves around a bank robbery, Varisu a family drama cum action entertainer directed by Vamshi Paidipally. Both films have opened to packed theatres and are receiving positive reviews from the audience. It looks like it's both Thunivu and Varisu Pongal indeed!
