Desi Boyz 2, a follow-up to Akshay Kumar and John Abraham's 2011 romantic comedy, is already on the cards. Desi Boyz centered on two financially stressed Indians living in the UK who turn to male escorting during a recession. In contrast, a new director and actors are helming the second part of the film now.

Reports regarding the follow-up to the 2011 film Desi Boyzz, starring John Abraham and actor Akshay Kumar, have been circulating for more than a month. While some rumors indicate that Desi Boyzz 2's script will soon be locked, others claim that Kumar and Abraham won't be returning to their roles and will be replaced by an entirely new ensemble of stars. Now, according to a recent report by Hindustan Times, “Desi Boyzz 2 actors are still getting finalised, they will locked once the scripting is done completely. But yes, its true that the OGs John and Akshay won’t be coming again in part two.”

There have been discussions about pursuing Tiger Shroff and Varun Dhawan for the lead roles. The insider continues that the second part's plot will be entirely different and include new actors; just the title will stay the same.

The source also provides details about the movie's leading ladies. “Ananya Panday might be approached as Varun’s romantic partner, but the second actress’ name is still being contemplated and there are no specific names in mind for that,” the source reveals. For the uninitiated, Desi Boyz stars Chitrangada Singh and Deepika Padukone as the female leads.

In addition to the casting changes, PeepingMoon reports that Desi Boyz 2's directing duties have also changed. The previous film's director, Rohit Dhawan, has been replaced by Lakshya Raj Anand, who also directed John Abraham's Attack. With his writing team, Anand has begun work on the script, hoping to have it ready for production by year's end. Actors will reportedly be contacted by the filmmakers as soon as the screenplay is finalized.
