The makers of the upcoming Malayalam survival thriller Exit dropped a major update before its theatrical release. They released the trailer of the film today (March 4). Anandham-fame Vishak Nair is playing the lead role in this movie. According to the director, the film will be released in Tamil, apart from Malayalam. It is directed by debutante Shaheen Mohammed.

In the trailer, two young men in a mysterious bungalow situated in a hilly area are afraid to make any noise. They fear a strange human who consumes human flesh and are trapped here for unexplained reasons.

The video shows Vishak Nair's character, a chained man, in search of the intruders inside the bungalow and spitting what looks like human flesh. At first glance, the two minutes and thirty seconds of video appear both unsettling and mysterious.

While Malayalam films have previously explored cannibalism, this one looks to be much more, telling the story of a man who has been shackled for more than 25 years.

Director calls Exit a commercial film

In an interview with OTTplay, Shaheen gave the reason behind the decision to delay the film's theatrical release, as it was slated to hit the big screen in February. He claimed that they had to address censorship concerns related to extremely violent scenes, which was the reason for the delay.

"Following the screening, we were told that the film contains highly bloody scenes and that it should be resolved before its theatrical release," he continued. Despite not intending to make a violent film, Shaheen went on to clarify that the plot needed violence to be believable.

Shaheen continued by saying that Exit is a commercial movie with emotional components rather than an experimental one. The director stated that the movie was inspired by some true stories he had heard as a young child.

Who are behind Exit?

Venu Gopalakrishnan has bankrolled this survival thriller, which will release in theatres on March 8. Riyas Nijamudheen is the cinematographer, and the editing work was overseen by Nishadh Yusuf.
