Mumbai-based entertainment distribution venture GoQuest Media has sealed a licensing deal for two Ukrainian series with the Indian giant streaming platform MX player. The streamer has acquired the rights of Ruby Ring and I’m On Your Side, both produced by Media Group Ukraine. Ruby Ring chronicles the complex, nuanced tale of Ana and Yana, two sisters whose lives take an unexpected turn and change forever. Some events upset the order of their lives and place them in a situation where they are caught in a conflict for the best life possible thereon. I’m On Your Side is a romantic drama drawn from the famous fairytale Beauty and the Beast. The series revolves around Anastasiya, who gets embroiled in the dark world of crime unwittingly after she happens to be witness to a murder.

Speaking about the licensing deal, Mansi Shrivastav, SVP and head – Content Acquisitions & Alliances at MX Player said that Indian audience has now opened up to international content more so because the shows are dubbed in local languages to increase their accessibility to a wider audience. She also shared that after Korean and Turkish shows on the platforms, the interest for Ukrainian dramas in India has peaked. The rising interest is due to the everyday nature of the stories, which are about common people and their troubles and difficulties, making them resonate with a global audience base.

Jimmy George, Vice President, Sales & Acquisitions at GoQuest Media, on the other hand said that he anticipates that the appetite for foreign-language content will only increase with time as variety of the content is at the core of more and more streaming platforms like MX Player, to draw more subscribers. 

The licensing deal between GoQuest Media and MX Player for the two Ukrainian series only proves his assertion. He signed off by saying that he is very excited to get these titles to India and it couldn’t have got a better collaboration than with MX Player to seal the deal.
