In the early stages, Uttarakaanda, the KRG Studios production, had a lot of buzz around it because it was reuniting the director and leading man of the banner’s debut venture Rathnan Prapancha – Rohit Padaki and Dhananjaya. It later emerged that the film had caught the attention of actress Ramya, who announced her return to cinema with Uttarakaanda. She was at the muhurtha of the film way back in November 2022, with Dhananjaya and the technical crew, but then, for reasons best known to all of them, she has now excused herself from the project.

On April 15, the film officially went on floors, and the team had said that details about the cast and crew would be announced in the days to come. Well, they started today with Toby and Sapta Sagaradaache Ello fame Chaithra J Achar on board as a character called Lacchi. The team is currently in Bijapur for the shoot. Rohit, we are told, has assembled a massive ensemble cast for the film, which also has Shivarajkumar along with Dhananjaya, details of which will be revealed in the coming days. Chaithra begins shooting for her portions today.

Uttarakaanda, which was first announced as one film, later became a two-part story and will explore the gangs of north Karnataka. The team had earlier revealed a teaser to introduce Dhananjaya’s character Gabru Sathya, a raw and rustic role that had won netizens over for the use of perfect slang of the area. In fact, the makers have said that the delay in taking the show on the road was because of the extensive planning involved in ensuring that north Karnataka region is presented in the most authentic fashion.

The film, produced by Karthik Gowda and Yogi G Raj, has Amit Trivedi on board for the music, while Sapta Sagaradaache Ello’s Advaitha Gurumurthy handles the camera.
