Liger is gearing up to make a rip roaring arrival onto the big screens soon. The team behind the sports actioner are currently keeping busy with promotional events for the same. Liger, which Karan Johar is a producer on, marks Vijay Deverakonda’s first Hindi film. Deverakonda recently revealed that Johar had offered him a role in another Bollywood film before Liger, which the former rejected.

During a promotional event in Hyderabad recently, as reported by Mid Day, Deverakonda revealed that Johar had approached him with a Bollywood film, after being impressed with the actor’s role in Arjun Reddy(2017). Deverakonda said that he was not ready to do a Bollywood film at the time, and had to say no to Johar’s offer.

The Liger team had approached Johar with the film, since they felt that the actioner had a pan India appeal. The film was simultaneously shot in Telugu and Hindi, and would be released in Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam as well. “He supported us well in every aspect", said Deverakonda of Johar.

During another event, Deverakonda had opened up about his character in the film, who has a visible stammer as the trailer revealed. The actor said that the speech impediment made the character more interesting to him. The character was a person who was very strong physically and intimidating to others as an MMA fighter. But despite his strength, he has difficulty in uttering even a simple ‘I love you’ to the woman he loves, said Deverakonda. In addition to being Deverakonda’s Bollywood debut, Liger also marks Ananya Panday’s debut South Indian film as well.

Liger, written and directed by Puri Jagannadh, will hit theatres on August 25. The film has been produced by Jagannadh,Charmme Kaur, Johar and Apoorva Mehta, under the banners of Puri Connects with Dharma Productions.
