When star-led movies announce their arrival, other films generally avoid clashing with the biggies. But contrary to this, Malayalam film Vaazha 2 has also chosen the same release date as the much-anticipated movie Drishyam 3 of superstar Mohanlal. This led to trolls online, but director Vipin Das, who has penned Vaazha 2, explains why the makers chose the release date, while stating that he hopes Drishyam 3 hits at least Rs 200 crore.
Vipin Das recently responded to the trolls and questions as to why Vaazha 2 is releasing with Drishyam 3, which is undoubtedly the most-anticipated Malayalam movie that even other language movie-buffs would be keenly following. But in conversation with Club FM Kerala, Vipin Das said that several big films are releasing for summer, including Aadu 3, Athiradi, Kattalan, and Mollywood Times.
"Around 10 films are releasing in those two months. So we have to release it along with one of these movies. In this, Athiradi is the same genre, while Aadu 3 is the same comedy genre like ours,” explained the director of Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey.
The director-write said that instead of clashing with these, they decided it is better to go with a Lalettan movie as there would be no other release for the next 2-3 weeks.
“Drishyam is a classic and it has its own audience and expectations, that would be there any time Drishyam 3 is released. So those who don't get tickets for that movie could come to our movie. I pray that movie hits Rs 200 crore. If that happens, I hope that we get at least one-fourth of that,” he added.
Vaazha 2 is the sequel to the popular film Vaazha: Biopic of a Billion Boys. Savin SA is directing the sequel while Vipin Das has penned the script. The upcoming film has a fresh cast of Hashir, Alan Bin Siraj, Ajin Joy, and Vinayak.
Drishyam 3, on the other hand, features Mohanlal in the lead along with Meena, Ansiba, Esther Anil, Murali Gopy and Siddique.
Mohanlal is currently working on the movie L366, directed by Tharun Moorthy.
