If the buzz in the industry is to be believed, Vishal and Nivin Pauly are reportedly joining the star cast of Thalapathy67. While Prithviraj was roped in for the role earlier, he opted out due to date issues. Nivin Pauly is said to have been brought in as his replacement. However, Vishal's addition has come as a surprise. There is no clarity on what his role would be. It was only recently that there were reports that popular rising star Mathew Thomas was zeroed in for the film. The team is yet to make an official announcement about the additions to the cast.

The shoot for Thalapathy67 is all set to go on floors in December. It will mark the comeback of the duo, Lokesh Kanagaraj and Vijay, after their successful collaboration in Master.(2021). Lokesh had revealed in a recent interview that the pre-production work for the film was on. It is said that the delay in the shoot is because Vijay's Varisu makers are yet to wrap up the work and begin the promotions for the film in full swing.

Vijay and Lokesh's previous collaboration, Master, was an action entertainer which revolved around an alcoholic professor called JD, who is assigned a teaching job at a juvenile home where he has to battle a drug mafia headed by a dreaded gangster called Bhavani, played by Vijay Sethupathi. The character of Bhavani is said to be one of the most notorious villains in Tamil cinema. While Malavika Mohanan played the leading lady, the supporting cast included Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Andrea Jeremiah, Gouri G Kishan, Arjun Das and Poovaiyar. The film's music, which was composed by Anirudh Ravichander, was a superhit.

In the meantime, Varisu has an ensemble cast which includes Prakash Raj, Sarathkumar, Shaam, Yogi Babu, Ganesh Venkatraman, Meena, Sneha, Khushbu, Sangeetha and Samyuktha. Rashmika plays the leading lady and the film marks her maiden collaboration with Vijay and her second film in Tamil, after her debut with Karthi's Sulthan. Varisu is directed by Vamshi Paidipally. Music is by Thaman and the composer had stated in an interview that scoring music for a Vijay film is a dream come true.
