2022 has been a busy year on the professional front for Chiranjeevi. From moving the past the setback of Acharya to shooting for Godfather, Waltair Veerayya and Bholaa Shankar simultaneously, the star has hardly had any break from work. If all goes well, one may see as many as three theatrical releases from the star in the coming year. However, the first Chiranjeevi starrer among them to hit theatres in 2022 will be Waltair Veerayya, the star's 154th film directed by Bobby Kolli.

Going by the tall standards that Chiranjeevi has set for himself over the years, films like Acharya and Godfather have hardly explored the potential of the performer in him. While it wouldn't be fair to compare both the films, it's evident that they have neither performed as well as expected at the box office nor satisfied the expectations of viewers. While Godfather was a respite for fans after a debacle like Acharya, it didn't attract the common man the way it was expected to.

If a weak script was the main issue for Acharya, the over-the-top, loud treatment of a strong story pulled Godfather behind. At a time like this, all that Chiranjeevi needs is a safe bet and he couldn't have asked for a better film than Waltair Veerayya, a Bobby Kolli directorial reminds us of the 'mega star' in the 1990s on the lines of Gharana Mogudu, Alluda Majaka. It presents Chiranjeevi in an out-and-out mass avatar with rustic action, music and humour - the way his fans want to see him.

Among all the films that Chiranjeevi has done post his comeback, only Khaidi No. 150 can be termed a super-hit and other films like Sye Raa, Acharya and Godfather didn't exactly set the box office on fire. The star needs a unanimous hit talk for his film, more than ever before. Waltair Veerayya is timed right for Sankranti 2023 and if done well, it could be the crowd-puller that Chiranjeevi truly needs now. Ravi Teja also plays a crucial role in the film comprising Shruti Haasan, Catherine Tresa and others.
