A slightly podgy not-the-most attractive man, with early stages balding, fancies a girl who travels on the same private bus that he takes to and from work. He’s determined to impress her, but fails to figure out just how to go about it. Hitting the gym, he thinks, would be futile and he’d only end up embarrassing himself amid beefed up guys, his sense of humour isn’t great, so using laughter as the way to her heart is also out of the question. Perhaps she likes music, he wonders, she has, after all, always got her ears plugged engrossed in something on her mobile phone. But then he’s only a bathroom singer with not the greatest of vocals. And just when he wonders just what he can do to get her attention, there’s a twist in the tale.
Watch Avalu here:
This is pretty much the gist of Avalu, a short film that has been hosted on cinematographer Satya Hegde’s YouTube channel. It’s cute, has a twist in the end, and is all of 10 minutes long. Directed by Sagar AB, who has also written it, Avalu features Benaka Channa and Preethika as this couple on the bus. The official synopsis of Avalu reads, “A Boy travelling in a bus, finds a girl very interesting. He gets fascinated by her looks and beauty. He is then stuck on the idea of how to impress her.” Much of the narrative takes place on the bus journey, which then cuts to his imagination of different ways to impress the girl of his dreams. What happens when she eventually smiles, presumably at him, forms the crux of the narrative. If you are looking for something interesting to watch, give this one a try.
