Earlier today, the team of the Kannada horror comedy Abbabba released a new song called Ayyayyo, in which lead actor Likith Shetty is seen swooning over Amrutha Iyengar. Music director Deepak Alexander got Vijay Yesudas to croon the number, which has lyrics by Kaviraj.

The song launch comes days ahead of the film’s theatrical outing that is set for February 16. Directed by KM Chaitanya, Abbabba was meant to be a July 2022 release, which was then pushed ahead indefinitely for reasons best known to the team. When there was no sign of it for more than a year and a half, it was thought that, perhaps, the film had been abandoned, but turns out, it has not.

Abbabba marks Malayalam actress Ann Augustine’s foray into Kannada cinema, albeit as producer. The film is the Kannada remake of the 2015 Malayalam film Adi Kapyare Kootamani, which the team has claimed has been changed suitably for Kannada audiences. The trailer, which came out long ago, though, hints at a faithful remake, with Likith taking on the role played by Dhyan Sreenivasan in the original.

A comedy with mild elements of horror, Abbabba is about what happens when a girl is smuggled into a boys hostel and the struggle to get her out before the rest of the world realizes she is on the premises. Amrutha Iyengar is the girl who lands up in the hostel with an agenda of her own. The film follows all that transpires during the time that Amrutha remains within the hostel. Why is she there and how will Likith and gang get her out before the warden finds out?

Abbabba also stars Ajay Raj, Sharath Lohithashwa, Vijay Chendoor, Thandav Ram, Dhanraj Achar, Anusha Rai, Sudha Belawadi, among others. The film is one of several Kannada movies that have booked the same date, including Ravike Prasanga, KTM, 5D, Mandya Haida and Ladies Bar.
