The next season of Wednesday, a recent hit series on Netflix, may end up moving to Amazon Prime Video. The popular Netflix horror-comedy series Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega as the lead role of Wednesday Addams, became a tremendous hit for the streaming giant. The expected second season may instead air on Prime Video, meanwhile, as a result of the first season's enormous success and Amazon's $8.5 billion acquisition of MGM Studios last year.

The prequel to Adam's Family premiered in November and went on to surpass Stranger Things in terms of the amount of time viewers spent watching an English-language Netflix series in a single week. In order to surpass the critically acclaimed Stranger Things, the Jenna Ortega-starring Wednesday racked up more than 400 million hours in a single week. The show gained popularity among audiences and the catchy theme tune is also loved by everyone.

According to Deadline, Wednesday was produced by Amazon-owned Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) Studios and set new marks for Netflix viewership. The likelihood seems evident given that Prime Video won't pass up the chance to capitalise on Wednesday's success in the first season. Nothing has been confirmed, though, and season 2 hasn't been officially confirmed. Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the creators of Wednesday, have revealed they have great ideas for further storylines thanks to the show's success.

Wednesday follows Jenna Ortega's character as she engages in escapades at the gothic high school named as Nevermore Academy. It was the same location where Luis Guzman and Catherine Zeta-portrayals Jones's of her parents, Gomez and Morticia, first met.

The lead character in the eight-episode series attempts to master her developing psychic abilities. Ortega's portrayal in Wednesday has received praise from both fans and critics of the show, which is a spinoff of the 1991 television series The Addams Family.
