The director in Karan Johar is currently charged-up as he pursues a more prolific decade of filmmaking. Having turned 50 earlier this year, Johar shared in multiple interviews that he aspires to direct much more than usual going forward and his maiden endeavour in this regard is the alluring Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. The upcoming film stars Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, two of the biggest actors in the Hindi Film Industry, in the lead and the team is said to have hit the strides after a break.
In a recent off-the-cuff chat on a dance reality show, Karan Johar was asked about his picks among Bollywood celebs when it came to the different dance forms. The Koffee with Karan host reckoned that while Ranveer Singh, his current leading man, would be the best fit for the hip-hop genre (for obvious reasons), Ranbir Kapoor would ace the freestyle genre of dancing.
In the same breath, Karan Johar answered that the Vikram Vedha actor Hrithik Roshan's elegance would be on the best display in Salsa and Varun Dhawan, he adds, looks best performing the contemporary form. But when it came to the Indian classical form of Kathak, Karan Johar chose to stay mum and instead said: "Well, I want to save that for when you see Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani"!
Although he made no allusions to a particular actor, many have been led to believe that Alia Bhatt will be seen performing Kathak in the film. Previously, Bhatt received a lot of love and regard for her graceful avatar in Dharma Productions' Kalank which, for myriad reasons, tanked at the box office.
Rocky Aur Rani ki Prem Kahani, according to reports, follows the two titular protagonists who fall in love with one another in spite of the differences in their social hierarchy. Ranveer Singh's Rocky is the heir of a mega enterprise called Dhanlaxmi Enterprises while Alia Bhatt's character of Rani belongs to a middle-class household and lives in a "lousy fort": things then take a dramatic twist when the two fall in love and their families do not support the relationship.
To make things even better, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani's cast also includes legendary actors Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, and Jaya Bachchan who will be seen playing key roles in the film. Talented Bengali actors Churni Ganguly and Tota Roy Chowdhury too will be part of the principal cast. Manush Nandan is handling the film's cinematography with Pritam, whose previous collaboration with Johar in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil yielded great results, is scoring the music.
