Ranbir Kapoor-Ileana D'Cruz-Priyanka Chopra Jonas' Barfi! is back in news now that IU-Park Bogum's When Life Gives You Tangerines has released on OTT. The series had been giving the vibes of Barfi!, but do you know that the Indian movie was actually supposed to see real-life couple (rumoured) Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor in a romantic angle. Anurag Basu had once confirmed that Katrina Kaif almost took up the film and would have ended up romancing Ranbir. However, that did not happen. Know all about it...
Katrina Kaif would have romanced Ranbir Kapoor in Barfi! The character of Shruti Ghosh, eventually played by Ileana D'Cruz, was actually written keeping Katrina in mind. Director Anurag Basu had revealed the same during his old interview with Hindustan Times.
Katrina backed out of Barfi! because she did not want to play second-fiddle to Ranbir Kapoor's Barfi. Moreover, things did not work out because of Ranbir's conflicting schedule with Rockstar. The actor's schedule for the Imtiaz Ali movie went on longer than expected. Further, by the time Ileana and Priyanka came on-board, working around their schedules took more time. Katrina was not able to wait for so long and thus, she decided to move on to other projects.
Not really. When Life Gives You Tangerines follows a different storyline. While there could be moments where fans confused When Life Gives You Tangerines as Korean Barfi! after seeing IU behaving strikingly similar to Priyanka Chopra's character Jhilmil, it is simply the aegyo culture in Korean women. Thus, comparing the two projects makes little sense. Nonetheless, more episodes of When Life Gives You Tangerines are to release, and we would have a clearer picture once the series ends.
Barfi! is a love story - one unrequited and the other innocent. It touches upon the subjects of loyalty, trust and regret. All of these emotions are connected to love. And just like that, Barfi! became a cute love story between a deaf-and-mute man and a girl with autism, both who trust and love each other to no bounds.
