Kiku Sharda might be a well-known name in the TV industry today but there was a time when he was rejected from reality shows. No, it was not because he was overweight (or at least he wasn’t rejected for that reason upfront). Kiku did not get dancing reality shows like Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa or Nach Baliye because he ‘wasn’t a celebrity.’
That’s right. Kiku was rejected on the grounds that he is ‘an actor’ but ‘not a celebrity.’ The actor told Pinkvilla the exact statement the production houses made to him. He said, “(I would be told) ‘Kyunki aap actor bade acche ho, lekin aap itne bade nahi ho, aap celebrity nahi ho abhi tak. Aap actor ho.”
Now, Kiku has been a part of both the dancing reality shows and enjoyed his time on them. The actor gained popularity through Comedy Nights With Kapil and The Kapil Sharma Show.
Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa and Nach Baliye weren’t the only places that rejected Kiku. The actor revealed that he and Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah actor Dilip Joshi were thrown out of a show overnight.
The show, called Aaj Ke Shrimaan Shrimati, featured the two with Shruti Ulfat. The production house threw both the actors out in order to ‘experiment’ with their project.
Kiku was upset to learn about that but Dilip assured him that things will turn out for the best. While Kiku felt that the audiences did not like them, Dilip told him that it was the production’s call.
Eventually, Kiku got the show back since the experiment failed. It took merely three months for the makers to realize that they need him back. Dilip was the first person to hear the news of Kiku joining the show back.
Currently, the actor went on Canada tour with The Kapil Sharma Show members to perform for the live audiences there. According to reports, the show will be back on TV with additional cast members. It is now just a matter of time before we know where they are all headed.
