Milana Nagaraj is a sucker for love stories. Her biggest career hits – Love Mocktail and Love Mocktail 2 – are romantic dramas. And yet, this year’s most talked about love story – director Hemanth M Rao’s Sapta Sagaradaache Ello did not exactly catch her fancy. Speaking during a recent round table conversation with fellow actors for a digital channel about her favourite film of the year gone by, unlike several others who named Sapta Sagaradaache Ello Side A as their top choice, Milana said that she is not a fan of tragic stories. Sapta Sagaradaache Ello, she said, was too much for her to take.

Having said that, though, she added quickly that what she liked about the film was the way that director Hemanth M Rao portrayed each character in the film, which is an opportunity that actors like her would die for. “The way he captured raw emotions was brilliant,” she added. As a movie viewer, though, she prefers films that make her happy and are entertaining. In that sense, Tagaru Palya would get her vote, as she thoroughly enjoyed watching it. Cinema, she adds, has to be engaging.

The actress, who was last seen in Kousalya Supraja Rama, also said that the greatest cinematic achievement of 2023 had to be Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare. Taking such a small subject and turning it into an immensely entertaining film and bringing people to theatres as well is a major achievement, she reckons. Asked about the importance of promotions and doing related interviews, during which time most people end up saying the same stuff over and over again, at the end of the day, all that matters is the first show report from the audience.
