I Am Legend, the 2007 post-apocalyptic action thriller, is getting a sequel with Will Smith and Michael B Jordan in lead roles.
Besides Smith, Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman, who adapted Richard Matheson's novel of the same name along with Mark Protosevich, is returning to write the sequel. A director's name is yet to be announced.
He will also produce along with Elizabeth Raposo and Jordan via Outlier Society. Meanwhile, Smith will produce under the banner Westbrook Studios with Jon Mone, according to Deadline.
The original film, directed by Francis Lawrence, also starred Alice Braga, Charlie Tahan, and Sally Richardson-Whitfield.
Set in New York City, I Am Legend followed Smith's Robert Neville, a US Army virologist who is immune to a virus that has turned most humans into vampire-like nocturnal creatures called the Darkseekers. They are sensitive to light and only prey on the last of the living population that has not been infected yet.
Upon it's release, the film went to gross $585.4 million worldwide.
Smith took to social media and confirmed the sequel as well as Jordan's involvement.
Here is his post:
The actor's last outing was King Richard, that traces the upbringing of tennis players Venus and Serena Williams, from the perspective of their ever-encouraging father, Richard Williams. The film has bagged six nominations, including Best Actor for Smith.
Meanwhile, Jordan was last seen in Creed III, which released this year.
