Wonka, the Timothée Chalamet-starring musical film, hit the big screens in December 2023. It is no surprise that the film became an instant hit, considering Willy Wonka's status as one of Roald Dahl's most beloved characters. The film is the musical adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and now it has made its way to OTT. Yes, Wonka is now available on Prime Video for rent at Rs. 499 for the UHD version.

A magical retelling

In the enchanted film Wonka, we witness the incredible life of the greatest chocolatier, magician, and inventor—the man who transformed into the adored character we know today. Hugh Grant plays the role of Oompa-Loompa, a friend who helps the young, impoverished, and ambitious chocolatier discover that a cartel of corrupt capitalists controls the candy industry. This realisation motivates him to take matters into his own hands and create chocolate and magical tricks that alter the course of history.

Streaming platforms and premiere details

Since Max is Warner Bros.'s official streamer, it's safe to assume that the movie will be accessible to watch online via the service. Subscribers will be able to access the movie at no extra cost once it becomes available for streaming, although no official date has been confirmed yet. In India, it's most likely to drop officially on JioCinema when it streams on Max.

The London Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre, hosted the world premiere of Wonka on November 28, 2023. Warner Bros. Pictures released it on December 8 in the UK and December 15 in the US. Despite a $125 million budget, it has amassed over $534 million globally and has been well-received by critics.

Not only did it get a nod for Best British Film at the BAFTAs, but Chalamet also got a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy.
