Wonka is finally ready for its full-fledged OTT premiere after being available for rent for a few months. The film will stream for all subscribers on JioCinema beginning on May 3, 2024. Wonka stars the magnificent Timothée Chalamet in the titular role, and in 2023, Paul King directed the musical fantasy comedy film based on the story, which he co-wrote with Simon Farnaby. Roald Dahl's 1964 book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory features the character Willy Wonka, and the film traces his beginnings as a chocolatier.
Wonka recounts the fantastic tale of how the most famous chocolatier, magician, and inventor on the planet evolved into the adored Willy Wonka that we know and love today, and it is based on the remarkable character at the heart of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Roald Dahl's most famous and best-selling children's book.
Wonka features an ensemble cast that includes Timothée Chalamet, Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, Mathew Baynton, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carter, Olivia Colman, and Hugh Grant, to name a few.
Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) are the two previous live-action adaptations of Dahl's novel.
