Last evening, Kannada actor-filmmaker Rakshit Shetty took to social media to announce that he and his team were working on figuring out a conducive date for the release of all five versions of his next, 777 Charlie. The Kiranraj K directorial had earlier been announced for a December 31, 2021 release, but was pushed ahead with no alternate date or the reason for the postponement. At the time, it was speculated that 777 Charlie was being postponed as the team was in the process of finalizing a distribution deal with a major Bollywood name for the Hindi version. In the three months since, there’s been no word from the team about this or a possible release date, until Rakshit’s tweet that read, “We understand many you are waiting for 777 Charlie updates. We are working on the release date which is suitable for all five languages. We will announce soon.”

His tweet, though, had the Twitterati wondering why there was so much focus on all language release, when it should be more about the Kannada version. “Don’t focus too much on Pan India release. It’s waste of efforts. Afte KGF, no movie got success in pan India release,” wrote one user. “Serve the core audience first. You can promote the film in other centres/languages during the OTT release time. If you continue focusing on pan-India releases, Kannada audiences will lose interest in these films,” said another. A third wrote, “In search of gold (Pan India/Multi Language), we lost Diamond (Kannada/Karnataka centric movie). Kannada filmmakers should not go behind pan India syndrome for all movies. Not all films can be KGF.” Yet another added, “With the amount of movies coming out, you won’t get enough time to promote anyway. So just focus on Kannada and Malayalam (considering your movie genre) and release the movie.”
