Prabhu Jeyaram, who worked as an assistant in films like Uriyadi, Nagesh Thiraiyarangam and Kaadu, is making his directorial debut with Yennanga Sir Unga Sattam. The film, according to him, is a social satire, based on some of the real incidents which happened in Tamil Nadu. The first look of the film, bankrolled by Passion Studios, was released by Jayam Ravi on Monday. It features a hybrid-dressed musician holding multiple instruments, with the tagline ‘no caste no religion’. RS Karthik, who played the protagonist in Peechankai, plays lead role in the movie, which has Rohini, Airaa, Bagavathi Perumal, Super Singer fame Soundarya, Bigg Boss Tamil Season 3 fame Meera Mithun and Junior Balaiah essaying pivotal roles.
Talking to OTTplay, Prabhu says that though their initial plan was to release the film in theatres, their trust in its content made them go the OTT way. He says, “We are in talks with a few OTT platforms pertaining to the project’s release and will make an announcement soon. The TN government recently fulfilled its promise of appointing aspirants belonging to all castes as temple priests. So, we felt it is better to release the movie, which deals with similar incidents, soon on a digital platform.”
Prabhu adds that Yennanga Sir Unga Sattam will have 12 actors, including Rohini and Junior Balaiah, playing dual roles in it. According to him, the film which was shot in Chennai and Kumbakonam, will remind the audience of K Balachander’s Oru Veedu Iru Vaasal with regard to its narrative style. “We had wrapped up the shooting before the first lockdown and were looking forward to an ideal date for a theatrical release. But the second lockdown and the uncertainty related to opening of movie halls made us reconsider our decision. The subject’s relevance in the current times was another reason why we chose to release it in OTT,” Prabhu adds.
