After much hype, The Archies have finally gone on floors. The Zoya Akhtar-directed film marks the acting debut of three star kids, namely Suhana Khan (Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan's daughter), Khushi Kapoor (Sridevi and Boney Kapoor's daughter) and Agastya Nanda (Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan's grandson). The film also marks the first solo production of Zoya and Reema Kagti's home banner, Tiger Baby Films.
While making the announcement, Kagti took to her Instagram page and shared a photo of the Archies' clapperboard. She captioned the photo as "# Archie’s #shootstarts #TigerBaby’s first solo production #partnerincrime @zoieakhtar @Netflix."
A few weeks back, photos of Suhana, Khushi, and Agastya from their look test on a set in Mumbai were leaked online. The film features Nanda in the titular role of Archie, while Suhana will be seen as Veronica and Khushi as Betty.
In a statement, the Gully Boy director expressed her excitement at the opportunity to helm The Archies, adding, "I'm excited to have the opportunity to bring The Archies to life." It took up a large part of her childhood and adolescence. Because the characters are legendary and well-known around the world, the filmmaker is concerned. Akhtar must ensure that the picture both captures the memories of a generation who grew up with the comic and speaks to today's young people.
Archie Comics CEO and Publisher Jon Goldwater stated that the characters and themes of Archie Comics have connected with readers all across the world, particularly in India, for more than 50 years. From an Indian cinema perspective, they are ecstatic to be collaborating with Netflix and have complete faith in Zoya Akhtar and her creative team to deliver a really distinctive and interesting take on Archie and his buddies.
The Archies is touted to be a musical and will be extensively shot in Mumbai and Ooty.
