The Sandeep Reddy Vanga-directed 2019 released film is a remake of the Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy featuring Vijay Devarakonda and Shalini Pandey in lead roles. It depicts the story of two medical students who fall in love but go through a crisis after their families oppose their relationship owing to the couple’s caste difference. Though the film was highly criticized for its misogynistic portrayal of the protagonist’s character, it still was a box office hit. It is available on Netflix to watch.
Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani-starrer Baaghi 2 is a remake of the Telugu action film Kshanam (2016) directed by Ravikanth Perepu. The original movie featured Adivi Sesh and Adah Sharma in lead roles. It follows an army man Ranveer Pratap Singh (Tiger Shroff) who is on a journey to find his ex-girlfriend, Neha’s daughter, Riya. The action thriller is available on Disney+Hotstar.
Ajay Devgn-starrer Drishyam, directed by Nishikant Kamat, is a remake of the original Malayalam film of the same name directed by Jeethu Joseph, starring Mohanlal in the lead. The film deals with a crime involving Vijay Salgaonkar’s (Devgn) family and the missing case of IG Meera Deshmukh’s (Tabu) son. The suspense thriller is available on Disney+Hotstar and Netflix.
The Bollywood blockbuster featuring Salman Khan and Ayesha Takia in lead roles is a remake of the original Telugu film Pokiri starring Mahesh Babu. The Hindi version was directed by Prabhudeva. One of the dialogues from the film “Ek bar joh maine commitment kar di uske baad toh main khud ki bhi nahi sunta” was quite popular during its trelease. It is available on Amazon Prime Video and Netflix.
Bollywood perfectionist Aamir Khan recreated this iconic Tamil movie directed by A.R. Murugadoss of the same name in Hindi in 2008. It follows the life of Sanjay Singhania (Aamir Khan) who pledges to take revenge on his ladylove’s murder from Ghajini. The plot conflict revolves around Singhania suffering from anterograde amnesia or short-term memory loss. It is available on Zee5.
Legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s Tamil movie Alai Payuthey (2000) was remade by Shaad Ali as Saathiya featuring Vivek Oberoi and Rani Mukerji in lead roles. It is considered as a cult classic by cinephiles with a realistic plotline featuring a young couple trying to survive in the outside world. A. R. Rahman’s soulful music is one of the highlights of the film. Watch it on Amazon Prime Video.
Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein
Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, featuring R. Madhavan and Dia Mirza in lead roles, is one of the romantic cult classics in Bollywood. It is the remake of the Tamil film Minnale made by director Gautham Vasudev Menon who recreated it in Hindi as well. It features the love story between Maddy and Reena who fall in love but with a twist of Reena not knowing about Maddy’s true identity. Watch it on Disney+Hotstar and Amazon Prime Video.
