All of Us Are Dead review: An unexpected emotional journey during a zombie apocalypse

Story:

A high school in a small town beside the city of Seoul in South Korea has been attacked by zombies. While everyone is in a state of panic, a small group of students try to escape death or events, more horrifying than that.

Review:

After the pandemic, the movies and shows related to viruses and zombies have become much more relatable to us. A few years earlier, the content related to the 'walking deads' were fascinating and most of them used to be light-hearted or comedy films, while after a whole new take on the subject, especially by the Korean film industry, these kinds of films have become a huge deal.

Talking about All of Us Are Dead, the series begins like a simple high school drama, where we can witness a teenage love story, a few bullying students, boring classes, homework and more. However, the show starts looking fishy with an entry of a weird-looking teacher, who seemed to be in huge pain and bagged up with a lot of issues.

The show doesn't only give you a simple horror story but the 12-episodic web series chronicles the day-to-day life issues and human emotions quite metaphorically in each of the episodes.

All of Us Are Dead talks about two different fathers and how both of them want to save their respective child from this evil world. However, the drastically different approaches taken by the two for the same goal provides us with a clear vision of what's right and what's wrong.

Apart from the doting father-child relationship, the horror drama show explains different kinds and levels of friendship. It wouldn't be a spoiler if I say that these high school kids lose a lot of friends during the zombie apocalypse, and each death makes them realise the importance of that person in their life and their relationship with them. And it does the same for the viewer as well. As an audience, it actually made me wonder about the ones whom I really want to be alive and safe if such a horrifying event were to occur.

Like most of the K-dramas, this one also has a few love angles in the story, which makes the show even more interesting towards the end and also make us intrigued about who's going to end up with whom.

The story is full of surprises and has a new take on the content, driven by zombies. While Lee Jae-gyu's direction has made difficult scenes and choreography of the whole show look effortlessly easy.

However, All of Us Are Dead is less glamorised, unlike the other K-dramas for obvious reasons, which make it even more believable and compelling.

Verdict:

Though everything was great and watchable in this web series, the end steals the show, with a major cliffhanger that might split the viewers apart with their opinions. As for me, it was mind-blowing and I cannot wait to watch the second season.

Without giving any spoilers, I would recommend the show to all the movie-buffs, who love to watch K-dramas and are into horror content.
