Bhamakalapam 2 Story

After going through hell in the first part of Bhamakalapam, Anupama (Priyamani) moves to a gated community. She sets up a hotel with her main Shilpa (Saranya Pradeep) and leads a happy life. This is also the time when Anupama decides to participate in a cooking contest that is hosted by Zubieda (Seerat Kapoor) and her criminal husband. Right when Anupama starts prepping for the contest, a cop comes into her life and blackmails Anupama to commit a robbery. Left with no choice, Anupama and Shilpa say yes to the heist and all they have to do is rob the trophy of the contest, which is a prized hen worth hundreds of crores. How Anupama faces these challenges while taking part in a contest is the story of Bhamakalapam 2.

Bhamakalapam 2 Review

Bhamakalapam was a hit on Aha. Impressed with the response, the makers are out with its sequel, Bhamakalapam 2. The film stars Priyamani, Seerat Kapoor, and Saranya Pradeep in lead roles and is about a heist attempted by Priyamani and her sidekick Sarayana. If part one dealt with the crazy goings on in an apartment society, director Abhimanyu sets the sequel on a larger scale and succeeds in it.

The best part of the sequel is that it has many relatable elements. The crimes showcased are believable and are in sync with the storyline. Director Abhimanyu has set up a crime drama through various subplots. The best part is that he does not waste time entering the main plot and comes to the point right away. Unlike the first part, how Priyamani is dragged into the crime setup looks quite simple.

Abhimanyu drives the narrative through the characters of Priyamani and Saranya, who give their best. Their chemistry is one of the highlights of the film and keeps us entertained. The crisp runtime also does not irritate the audience and though there is nothing novel that is being showcased, the narrative keeps you hooked with decent twists. The one that is showcased through the character of Seerat Kapoor is quite interesting and has been placed cleverly into the narrative.

Bhamakalapam 2's world is simple and does not have moments that are rushed on the audience. Each episode is unravelled interestingly and the key heist of the hen robbery is showcased in a gripping manner. After the Amabajipeta Marriage Band, Saranya Pradeep gets yet another meaty role in this film. Saranya as the maid Shilpa performs superbly and her fun dialogues in the tense moments are quite cool.

Priyamani leads from the front and gives a stellar performance. She is a typical homemaker who gets into bigger problems, which is amazing in the film. Priyamani's performance and screen presence during the heist episodes are quite good. Once again, Priyamani showcases her versatility with Bhamakalapam 2. A lot of homemakers will relate to her character.

Anuj Guruwara, as the mafia don, is neat in his role. Seerat Kapoor has a meaty role in her comeback film and does her part to the best of her capabilities. Sundip Ved, who plays the cop, was okay and a more intense performance from him would have been better.

The production design of the film is cool, as the hotel setup is showcased through good camerawork. The screenplay is neat and does not bore you with dragging moments. The dialogue and editing are also perfect. However, the director takes a few cinematic liberties, which look over the top when scenes related to the heist are showcased.

The music by Prashanth R Vihari is impressive as is his background score. Bhamakalapam 2 has a simple storyline and makes good use of the limited characters. Had the emotions been stronger and the thrills been more dramatic, the effect would have been even better.

Bhamakalapam 2 Verdict

On the whole, Bhamakalapam 2 is a fairly good heist thriller that has passable thrills and an engaging screenplay. Priyamani once again delivers a superb performance and holds your attention. There is nothing fancy or novel that is showcased through this film but the way it is narrated with interesting thrills make up for a timepass watch this weekend.
