Kalyugam Pattanamlo Review

As the title suggests, the film is set in the age of darkness and showcases how crime and social disturbance play an important part in our lives. Director Ramakanth Reddy pens a thriller that has mother sentiment, social issues, and moral values being told subtly.

Kalyugam Pattanamlo starts on a simple note but tends to become quite interesting after the pre-interval episode. The way things tend to become quite serious during this time is showcased quite well by the director. How the thrills are executed during this to reveal who the actual culprit in the crime thriller is has been showcased interestingly.

After the interval twist, the narrative shifts towards a conventional crime storyline, exploring themes of sexual deviance and disturbing character archetypes. The segments set in college depict the protagonist as an ordinary girl next door. Considering the subsequent events in the romantic plotline, the narrative should have been a lot better.

There are multiple genres in the film and there is an angle to female-oriented narration that has been kept as an underlying emotion. But in all this, the slow pace of the film keeps the audience at bay. A racy screenplay would have made a lot of difference. In terms of performances, noted actor Devi Prasad as the hero's father was also neat in his role. Anish Kuravilla was also effective in his small role.

Kaliyugam Pattanamlo is a film that has scope for great performances and the main lead, Vishwa Karthikeya, is the best of the lot. He plays the double role and depicts different shades with a lot of ease and confidence. The portions of being a violent man in society and his thinking towards committing crimes have been showcased well by the young actor. He will surely go a long way if she chooses good roles in the future.

Chitra Shukla does well in her role as a cop but is also restricted in a few scenes as her role is not properly etched by the director. Aayushi Patell is a surprise package of the film. She starts as a cute little college-going girl and gets this massive transformation later on in the film. She does well to hold her character and gives a decent performance.

Ajay Arasada's background score is quite good, as it showcases the crime setup intriguingly. Charan Madhavaneni's cinematography was also effective. Garry BH's non-linear editing was pretty good. Though the film has been made on a low budget, it looks rich and realistic throughout.

One of the biggest drawbacks of the film is that it does not have stand-out moments in the second half. If this aspect had been handled properly, the output would have made a world of difference, but that does not happen, and the film ends on a predictable note. Also, a more experienced cast would have made a world of difference to the film.

Kaliyugam Pattanamlo Verdict

Overall, Kaliyugam Pattanamlo has an interesting premise and deals with how parents should tame children at a very young age to avoid crime. Though not many standout scenes hold your attention, the crime setup, social message, and a few thrills make this film a passable watch.
