The Freelancer The Conclusion Story:

The entire series of ‘The Freelancer’ is, in totality, based on the A Ticket to Syria, a book that has been authored by Shirish Thorat, an ex-cop in real life. The whole series revolves and rotates around Avinash Kamath, who happens to be an ex-police officer turned mercenary.

He is on a mission to rescue Aliya (the daughter of his ex-colleague Inayat Khan), who gets ‘wed-trapped’ by a terrorist organization in war-torn Syria. The Neeraj Pandey series sees the presence of towering performers like Mohit Raina, Anupam Kher, and Kashmira Pardeshi in leading roles. Lending them apt support are Ayesha Raza Mishra, Manjari Fadnnis, Navneet Malik and Sushant Singh.

The Freelancer The Conclusion Review:

Prima facie, the story plot is something that is not new to the audiences. One has witnessed similar story canvas in films like ‘The Kerala Story’, ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’, ‘Akelli’, ‘Baaghi 3’ and others. What makes Disney+ Hotstar's The Freelancer different from others is the treatment which has been given to the entire series.

First things first! The series ‘The Freelancer’ has been divided into seven parts so far. The first starts off when Avinash Kamath aka the Freelancer (Mohit Raina) meets an Avigom who tells him about Behrouz Hosseini, who has been kept in utter safety by the Task Force officials and that they want him to go to Taliban Controlled Kabul and enter the NATO controlled Kabul airport.

It is here that they want him to find the Hezbollah agent who is under the US Army custody and neutralise him. And for this, he gets paid a whopping $2,000,000! Thereafter starts Avinash Kamath’s task of eliminating Behrouz Hosseini, which he and his team do it effortlessly… and that too, in broad daylight!

This is followed by the ex-cop Inayat Khan (Sushant Singh) being gunned down by the Mumbai Police outside the American Embassy in Mumbai, which eventually forms the germination point of the entire series. And, because of this, Avinash comes to Mumbai as Inayat was his ex-colleague. It is here, he meets the late Inayat Khan’s wife Sabeena, who tells him about the circumstances under which their daughter Aliya had gotten married and how her husband was worried when she went missing.

Thereafter starts Avinash’s next mission of finding Aliya, which takes him to many places and meet many people. This part also shows his past of his tenure with the Mumbai Police department as an outright police officer. While the third part, which has been titled ‘Flashback’, traces back Avinash’s past and personal life.

And, the fourth part, which has been titled ‘Martyr’ is all about Avinash establishing contact with Aliya and laying the groundwork to rescue her from the ‘hellhole’. And the just released fifth part, which has been titled ‘Doppelganger’ basically forms the blueprint to the roadmap of the rescue plan devised by Avinash. Since giving out more details about this part will only act as a spoiler, that’s why we will refrain from doing so.

And the fifth part ‘Death At The Dooorstep’ sees Avinash seeking the help of the IB (Intelligence Bureau) as he gets extremely disappointed with the CIA officials, who, eventually, refuse to lend him a helping hand in rescuing (read’ extracting’) Aliya. On the other hand, the sixth part ‘Touch And Go’ sees Avinash rescuing the American Nabeela in place of Aliya. What happens after that is what forms the rest of the story.

As for the performances, it is undoubtedly a Mohit Raina show all the way. One cannot take away the fact that, the conviction with which he has done the role, seems like he was totally tailor made for it and vice versa. The ever-dependable Anupam Kher is seen in a role which many have seen before in films like Special 26 and likes. But, just like every time, this time too, the veteran actor brings something new to the table!

Trailing them is the extremely talented Kashmira Pardeshi, who is definitely a name to watch out for in Bollywood. There are many places where she simply does her expressive eyes do the talking! Rest of the cast help in a major way to carry the series forward on their able shoulders.

The Freelancer, which has been directed by Bhav Dhulia and created by Neeraj Pandey, is definitely a masterpiece in the making. Having said that, there are a few places where the direction and editing could have been a bit more watertight and apt. On the other hand, a handful of places does require ‘re-touching’ of the vfx.

But, full marks to Bhav Dhulia and Neeraj Pandey for giving the audiences a reason to cheer about and feel good about in the form of The Freelancer. Extra brownie points to the cinematographers Arvind Singh and Sudheer Palsane for their splendid camera work and also to Sanjoy Chowdhury, for his ‘suited to a t’ type of background music.

The Freelancer The Conclusion Verdict:

The Freelancer- The Conclusion is definitely a gripping entertainer that’s sprinkled with some stellar performances, which makes the term ‘edge of the seat thriller’ seem like an understatement!
