Indian compound archers showcased their dominance at the ongoing Archery World Cup Stage 1 2024 in Shanghai, securing a hat-trick of gold medals in the team events. Adding to this remarkable feat, Jyothi Surekha Vennam claimed an individual gold, bringing her total gold medal count to three in the same tournament.

The Indian team began their medal quest with a stellar performance from the women's trio — Jyothi, Aditi Swami, and Parneet Kaur — who defeated Italy 236-225. The women's team displayed exceptional precision, dropping only four points from 24 arrows against the sixth-seeded Italian team.

Following suit, the Indian men's team, comprising Abhishek Verma, Priyansh, and Prathamesh Fuge, clinched victory against the Netherlands' trio of Mike Schloesser, Sil Pater, and Stef Willems with a score of 238-231.

The triumphant streak was sealed by the mixed team of Jyothi and Abhishek, who fended off a late challenge from their Estonian counterparts, Lisell Jaatma and Robin Jaatma, winning 158-157 in a thrilling finale. This achievement marked a double gold medal triumph for reigning Asian Games champions Jyothi and Abhishek.

Notably, Jyothi also secured victory in the women's compound individual final, claiming a hat-trick of gold medals for herself. According to a tweet by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Media, they wrote, "@VJSurekha reigns supreme for Team India! She wins her third gold at the #ArcheryWorldCup Stage 1 in Shanghai! The archer defeated Mexico's Andrea Becerra in a tie-breaker after the scores were tied 146-146 to win India's fourth gold medal of the competition! #IndianArchery".

Priyansh secured a silver medal in the men's compound event, losing the final 147-150 to Austria's Nico Wiener, finishing as the runner-up.

On Sunday, the medal rounds for the recurve event will take place, and India has set its sights on securing two gold medals from the Olympic discipline.

In the gold medal clash, the Indian men's team will face off against the reigning Olympic champion, South Korea.
