Every record India broke by winning the T20 World Cup 2026

India became the first nation to win three T20 titles (2007, 2024, 2026) and achieved the first successful title defence. They broke the host nation jinx by winning on home soil as well.

The T20 World Cup 2026 final in Ahmedabad wasn't just a victory for the Indian Men's Cricket team; it was a statistical destruction. By the time the final wicket of the New Zealand team fell at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the record books had been entirely rewritten. From team milestones to personal brilliance, the "Men in Blue" set standards that may not be touched for decades.

Record broken by the 'Men in Blue'

1. The first "triple crown" winners

India has officially become the first country in history to win three T20 World Cup titles (2007, 2024, and 2026).

This victory draws them clear of England and the West Indies, who both sit on two titles each, cementing India as the uncontested kings of the shortest format in international cricket.

2. First successful title defence

In the twenty-year history of the competition, no men's team had ever won back-to-back titles.

By defending their 2024 title, Suryakumar Yadav’s men have completed the first-ever "double," demonstrating their authority across different circumstances.

3. The "host nation" jinx broken

Before this edition in India and Sri Lanka, no host nation had ever won the Men's T20 World Cup on home soil.

India destroyed this "curse" in front of a record-breaking crowd at the Narendra Modi Stadium, becoming the first nation to lift the trophy in their own backyard.

4. Highest total in a T20 World Cup final

India’s 255/5 is now the highest score ever recorded in the final of a senior ICC T20 World Cup. They shattered their own record of 176/7, set against South Africa in the final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.

This was also the highest score by any team in a knockout (or playoff) match in T20Is.

Highest totals in T20 World Cup finals:

  • 255/5 - India vs New Zealand (2026)
  • 176/7 - India vs South Africa (2024)
  • 173/2 - Australia vs New Zealand (2021)
  • 172/4 - New Zealand vs Australia (2021)
  • 169/8 - South Africa vs India (2024)
  • 5. Largest margin of victory

The 96-run win over New Zealand is the largest margin of win (by runs) in a T20 World Cup final.

The previous record was held by the West Indies, who beat Sri Lanka by 36 runs in 2012.

This was also India's biggest win margin (by runs) in Men's T20 World Cup history.

    6. Powerplay carnage

The opening stand between Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson gave India 92 runs in the first 6 overs.

This is now the joint-highest by any team in the men's T20 World Cup, equalling West Indies' 92 for 1 against Afghanistan in 2024. However, this is the highest powerplay in a T20 World Cup final match.
