What a game, what a last over between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Gujarat Titans (GT)! Match 40 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 saw another game go down to the wire, but GT ended up on the losing end as the home team won by 4 runs. One moment, Delhi was dominating, and then Gujarat looked like favourites, but ultimately, the target was too stiff for Gujarat to seal the deal.

This will surely be a tough pill for GT to swallow, especially after being all out for 89 runs in their previous encounter at their home ground, with DC winning that game by 6 wickets with 67 balls left.

Chasing 225 runs, skipper Shubman Gill was out cheaply (6 off 5). But Wriddhiman Saha scored a sketchy 39, while Sai Sudharshan was in fine form, smashing 65 off 39. However, Rasikh Salam sent the latter back with a slower delivery.

Soon after, Azmatullah Omarzai (1 for 2), Shahrukh Khan (8 for 5), and Rahul Tewatia (4 for 5) fell in quick succession. But, David Miller had other plans as he took on his countryman Anrich Nortje with a 24-run over and quickly reached a fifty. The southpaw could not stay till the end and was dismissed by Mukesh Kumar.

GT got two more cameos from Sai Kishore (13 off 6) and Rashid Khan (21* off 11), but still fell short by 4 runs. Rasikh Dar Salam claimed 3 wickets while Kuldeep Yadav picked up two. Anrich Nortje, Mukesh Kumar, and Axar Patel had one wicket each.

Earlier, Delhi's start after being put into bat appeared unpromising, as GT pacer Sandeep Warrier dismissed three batters in the Powerplay. Yet DC's decision to send Axar Patel up the order proved fruitful. Patel and Rishabh Pant steadied the innings, taking their time to settle in and gradually diversifying their range of shots.

Although Axar was later dismissed for 66 - his highest IPL score - DC's scoring momentum remained unhampered. Pant found support in Tristan Stubbs (26 off 7), and together, they wreaked havoc.

GT's decision to introduce Sai Kishore in the 19th over backfired, as DC amassed 22 runs. In the final over, Pant capitalized on Mohit Sharma's bowling, plundering 31 runs. Sharma, the GT pacer, conceded 73 runs without taking a wicket.
