When a match is held at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, it is a well-known fact that it will be a high-scoring game. However, it seems that Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) had different plans when they hosted Punjab Kings (PBKS) for the 2nd game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

During the talk shows preceding the game, many former cricketers stated that it was important to score 60+ runs in the Powerplay and achieve scores of 200+ runs in 20 overs. Considering the RCB bowlers' lineup, this did not seem like a difficult task. However, upon seeing the score posted by PBKS - 176, fans took to social media to express disappointment in the batters' failure to capitalize on the small venue.

In the Powerplay, Punjab scored 40 runs, having lost their opener Jonny Bairstow (8). RCB then ensured to take wickets at regular intervals, with skipper Shikhar Dhawan (45) being the highest scorer. PBKS' hard-hitters Liam Livingstone (17), Sam Curran (23), and Jitesh Sharma (27) could not get going too. Towards the end, it was Shashank Singh who scored 21 off 8 deliveries taking the score to 170+ runs. For RCB, Mohammed Siraj and Glenn Maxwell took two wickets each, while Yash Dayal and Alzarri Joseph took one each.

However, AB de Villiers has said that the pitch is no longer behaving like the usual high-scoring track, suggesting that the current score could be deemed sufficient.
